At my sons 2 year appointment I mentioned some red flags but they weren't much so we gave him a few monthsbrI just took him in again and was told he is high risk for autism, but it would be high functioning, because he only really struggles with speech, language and eye contact with small regressions here and therebrSo getting him set up with speech therapy and I'm pretty excited honestly brOh and they are doing a more broad screening too Comment from : Ketikatz |

I'm new at this, my grandson has autism I love him with all of me I just can't get him to eat His social skills needs improvement, but I have seen some changes How can I get him to eat and what do I give him Ensure sounds like a good idea I'm battling with this due to him only seeing me every two weeks His home environment isn't the best, she's a good mom, but there's more to rather than placing him in front of the TV What do I do? Comment from : Dawna Izak |
Our son is 5 and going through the assessment process again At two they thought he was autistic, but due to the pandemic, he wasn't seen face to face When he started to talk at 3 they took him off the list, but there is so many things he does that makes us think he is on the spectrum He stutters now and finds it difficult to communicate with us He was terrified of other children, but is now playing with them and interacting with them He is an over achiever and sets high goals for himself He is like Lex where he only eats certain foods, depending on their colour and texture Comment from : Keeping It Real |

Thank u for sharing this video I’m going through the same thing with my 5 year old daughter She was diagnosed with Autism High Functioning She started speaking at 3 and a half y/o It gets hard for me at times because sometimes I lose my patience and I don’t wanna be like that I’m getting better the more and more I understand her She having trouble at school with keeping still, but she is the smartest kid in the class She makes noises while in class I do get a lot of phone calls from her teacher about her behavior But I did let her know she has Autism She has IEP for school where they provide Speech and ABA She also goes to a private Occupational and Speech Everything is a lil challenge for her being sociable because she is an only child Personal space she doesn’t understand yet It’s a lot I cried watching this and It’s a comforting to see that I’m not alone on this battle❤ Thank u Comment from : Chae Bae |

I am just finding your channel and Lex is fascinating to me! I hope that doesn’t come off weird, but my son is 5 also and currently in OT, he’s been diagnosed with ADHD, and he is fixing to start speech again for feeding We just had our 3rd autism evaluation yesterday Our first one that is not through the public school system Braxton is my Lex and I have never found another child so relatable! I just would love to see him interacting I am excited I found your channel and Lex! I just have no words! My mama heart is speechless Comment from : Jessica Palermo |
I'm not saying that's the case in this example But when asking the question, in general you have to be perfectly precise with words, to be properly understood To be a dog might be very logical response when you reconsider your question Because you didn't ask what he wants to DO, but what he wants to BE, and that is different Grown up people use phrases to witch they ascribe meaning those words usually have in conversation But ascribed meaning doesn't have to match literal meaning brbrIf you want to ask how someone wants to earn money for living, than be precise To be or to do is not same thing Being dog or being human, is not about doing but about being I'm just saying Comment from : Лупетање Глупости1 |
What's the name of the shake please anyone? Comment from : amina mahdy |
When did he first start talking? Did he talk early? Comment from : Joshua |
When you say everything that your son knows I stop and think because my son was just Diagnosed with lv 1 autism he is high functioning he also has adhd my son just started kindergarten in August and they don’t want to give him any services he knows how to write his name but not how to spell it out loud doesn’t know his abc knows some shapes and he just learned the state where he lives he knows my phone number and the pledge of Allegiance colors and numbers has trouble after 10 but doesn’t really know how to write it …the school at most wants to give my son a 504 plan for the adhd and not an iep because there is no goals and honestly I just don’t get it Comment from : johanna m |

Stephanie I need some advice My son had about 3-4 evaluations for Autism and ultimately the doctors and his school professional is his doesn't have autism but might have ADD or ADHD bc he can communicate but has very short attention span My question is should I take him to be reevaluated again or should I just wait awhile to see if certain habits will be dropped on his own? Thank you so much in advance if you reply Comment from : Chanels Lounge |

I know this is the wrong video to be commenting on this, but I started using ABCmouse and I have to say it is pretty good It works a little better than Reading Eggs for me specifically because I am both blind and autistic I am using it because of the fact that my day program school is closed from covid-19 Comment from : Ozzacassie Pophart |
I agree with you about the term ‘mild’ as the effect on the childs life is anything but mild I also never liked the term developmental delay as so many kids conditions are permanent not a delay Delay suggests they will catch up which of course is often not the case at all Comment from : Willowgirl |
Way to go Lex!!!! Super proud of you bub!!! I have 2 children on the spectrum so our family can relate to yours! God bless Comment from : Jessika Jade |

I wish you’d do a podcast! I can’t find any that are relatable to parenting most are focused for teachers and therapists I’d love to have someone that I can listen to that is family oriented Love your channel! Comment from : collywoowoo |
I can so relate to what you're saying about Lex's progression when it comes to Autism I didn't start talking until I was around about 3 and a half and most of the main problems that Lex had, I had like language problems and being slightly behind developmentally like for example the question about what I want to be when I'm older and I had eating issues as well As for finding out myself why I had Autism and what it was and why I was different, I was diagnosed aged 4 and a half but didn't find out that I was autistic until I was 8 years old so it's probably normal that Lex hasn't asked yet but be patient because he could ask about his autism at any point in the future Comment from : Evan Walter |
Omg Lex sounds just like my sonlol he is also labeled High Functioning But omg thats exactly how my son is He will be 6 January 12th Comment from : leah Jefferson |

We are watching my five year old daughter for high functioning autism She had been diagnosed with adhd by a pediatric neurologist, but he kept questioning why I was there and told me to buy a book on difficult children I waited a year and a half for a second opinion with a very good developmental pediatrician (during this time she was receiving speech therapy, occupational therapy, and play therapy through the school district and was able to go to a special needs pre-school with the help of her daycare manager) The developmental pediatrician agreed with the adhd diagnosis and added anxiety She does notice some behaviors of high functioning autism so we are watching how she does in kindergarten (which is hard because they keep going back and forth between being fully remote and going two days a week due to covid) But she is very black and white in her thinking, she can’t get past her idea of right/wrong, and can’t understand others points of view/emotions in situations She is a bit awkward socially and plays better with boys than girls, she tends to be more wild in her play She is now developing phobias like things going down the heat vents and wants to do odd things like collect her fingernails It’s all so hard to deal with on a daily basis, but I really worry about her future and how she will deal with “real life” problems She is five, life shouldn’t be so rough 😔 Comment from : Blue Mountain Little |

Ok, just putting this out there I totally understand Lex and my son are so similar in many different ways, late talker, super clever, loves mario and paw patrol, and doesn't imagination play, he just lines his toys up and repeats their catch phrases My son is 5 in May, and very excited for Kindergarten this year We have lots of sensory issues we're managing as well He gets the, oh he doesn't look autistic all the time But they don't see what I see on a daily basis Both my kids and myself have autism, along with my two half sisters as well I never compare our autism, but I do think about all our similarities Like I'm highly emotional, especiallywith sensory overload, so is my daughter My son and sister are very picky eaters and have limited food, and struggle to keep weight on I was a picky eater as a child, with things needing to be a certain way, but they are both at the extreme side to it One of my sisters is really into slimes and sensory input So is my daughter It's so fascinating how different we all are, and at the same time, very similar in other ways as well Comment from : BookloverFantasy92 |
“Lex what do you want to be when you grow up?”br“ a dog”brWhat a good aspiration 😇❤️ bless the child Comment from : Help Me, my spaghetti is trying to eat me |
I’ve been here since Lex was itty bitty and it’s been so neat to watch him grow up and slowly conquer each task that was set in front of him Comment from : Cara Evans |
Glad to hear Lex has gained a few pounds! Does he, or would he, like helping you in the kitchen? Maybe it would be fun for him, and more excited to eat, if he participated in preparing food (child safe of course!)br ie mixing batter, making fruit salad, assembling meat/cheese/crackers Just a thought! Comment from : Amy Pearsall |
Lex is an adorable young man! He is so personable! He is getting so big! So glad he is doing so good! Comment from : Deb LaVan |
My son is 18 years old now, and he was Diagnosed with Autism on the high functioning side when he was 8 or 9 years old My son's father and his family still to this day do not believe that my son is Autistic, they refuse to accept it and choose to attribute it to my parenting, smh So I know what that's like and not just that side of the family but anyone who isn't familiar with Autism and the many spectrums associated with it, think that my son is a typical young adult It can be frustrating when getting him assistance in certain areas Comment from : Jen |
Put him in dance and gymnastics, so he can try them and they are very compatible activities Gymnastics will give him a great physical outlet If he loves dance, let him experience it more Comment from : SueAnn Eason |
Kinda have a different question and want a parent’s perspective What are your expectation from the Rbt’s that come into your house What do you as a mom what do want from a worker who is in the home beyond their required “work” ? Really curious on how I can be better extension for families Comment from : Nicole 3605 |
My son doesn’t always appear autistic and even sometimes I question however he is Pathological demand avoidance profile so very different Lex will still have struggles and I find with kids who are verbal and function closer to “neurotypical” often have a harder time socially because they are still autistic but they are often seen as the naughty undisciplined child not autistic This is the biggest barrier because it’s all cute when they’re little but when they are teenagers the matter of fact attitudes, stimming and sensory overload makes them funny to their peers This is hard Lex is gorgeous and reminds me a lot of Tobi when he was small Comment from : Wilderness adventures Oz |
Would you send him to a special school if public doesn’t work out Comment from : hopper98528 |

Would high functioning autism be like asbergers Comment from : hopper98528 |
Lex is doing great! You are doing a great job! I too hate labeling autism Every child is different whether they are special needs or not Comment from : Rebecca Ordonez |
it kind of annoys me when i point out in a nursery I work at that a child may have needs but they say there is nothing wrong with them without them getting evaluated i think people still think of autism as been this person who has little to no speech doesn't wanna play with people etc i wanna spread more awareness for people with high functioning autism and for all people who work in nurseries or schools to at least be aware of the signs and not just assume its their age or the parents fault i hope one day i can achieve this Comment from : dark shadow |
I can't believe Stephanie read my question!!!! I literally screamed so loud, I still can't believe it! Comment from : Asher |

I’m really excited for the potty training tips video! I’m super anxious to buy my son a potty for his 2nd birthday! I want it to happen, but I also don’t want to frustrate him more because of his speech delay I hope 2 is the right time to start trying ❤️ Comment from : Amarilis |
Your age updates really help Especially with the special needs kiddos Comment from : April Haught |
I really love how you went into detail about the communication part that he needs working on My son is about to be 2 and he is speech delayed, I notice he doesn’t mind other kids, but sometimes I feel like he comes off mean because he doesn’t know how to play or be nice to kids or maybe doesn’t care to So he’ll push his cousin that’s a year older than him, or he’ll lean in and close his eyes to her but he won’t give hug or give kiss upon request Thanks for sharing, it really helps others! ❤️ Comment from : Amarilis |
