basic knife handling skills is what I would recommend first when it comes to cooking It just makes meal prepping much more efficient As a Chinese man, everyone should own themselves a cleaver The flathead makes it versatile to transfer the chopped veggies and aromatics onto the wok Comment from : Newfie Asian Kid |

I always loved Yan Can Cook It's great seeing him still teaching Comment from : Jubei Kibagami Fez |
Truly an absolute master in terms of technical skill but a bit difficult to watch because of his extreme narcissism He spent a great deal of this presentation touting his skills and affirming how terrific he is with knife skills and culinary knowledge A little humility goes a long way For my money, a master like Jacques Pepin is a much better teacher because his lessons are tempered with a great deal of humility Comment from : Dave Chartrand |
Gem Comment from : MFJoneser |

Great video but why cant the camera guy have a switch to go back and forth between the wide shot and overhead instead of panning to that blown out lo res screen Would be way cooler if you did And this video would go from a 7 to an easy 9-10 Comment from : ZionצִיּוֹןMinistries |
As a Vietnamese I'm both proud and sad going through this video Proud because Chef Yan thinks so highly our cuisine, and sad because nowadays you can actually see many obese people and even kids in the country I wonder when this was filmed Anyhow thanks so much for such an insightful video! Am I the only one baffled as to why the cameraman was cool with that dude in the front blocking the right side of the cutting board? So fricking annoying How did no one see that before they set up the demonstration? I'm only 5 minutes in though, so maybe they fix it? 🙏🏾 Comment from : DoubleDutch |
this man is a 🤡 Comment from : user-xv4he4mt4x |
Love Chinese efficiency because they use primarily 1 knife But learning curve to work with this knife for all these techniques is high And home cooks in china are so much simpler So while I appreciate the one knife for all approach They don’t have the best knife for every job That have a knife… just like the Japanese equivalent that can do all but takes technique Comment from : C T |
Video starts at 4:08brUnless you want to watch a guy say "um" fifty times and struggle to read from a piece of paper Comment from : Revelation6_7-8 |

The sharpness of a knife indicates NOTHING I get paper cuts all the time And watching him hacking away at tomatoes instead of a single slice is just horrible I can slice tomatoes paper thin when I sharpen my knives - so what? What matters is how long they stay sharp Comment from : Wilhelm Taylor |
The filming technique is terrible Why not change your angle if you have tall people in front of you camera? And the uploaded video is only 720p? wtf seriously brMr Martin Yan is fantastic btw Comment from : Monoman |

Lived in Hong Kong and Guangzhou province for 7 years , from 1993 to 2000, and as mr Yan stated, the western world has not much of an idea of how these amazing people live, I have eaten alot of delicious food in China, some would make people’s stomach curl 😂, but I never had food poisoning once, even drank water out of the tap, if you have not experienced it you can’t criticise, well done Martin Yan 👍👍Phil from Australia 🇦🇺 🇦🇺🇨🇳🇨🇳 Comment from : Phil Gogler |
