I used to live in a small town near the place where Terry was forced to abandon his Marathon of Hope This part of the Trans-Canada, where it loops over the north shore of Lake Superior, passes through some of these longest and steepest hills east of the RockiesbrbrThese hills are long enough and steep enough to challenge a transport truck I’ve lost count of the number of times I was stuck behind a truck on that highway which was barely going 30 klicks (a bit less than 20 mph to an American) by the time it reached the topbrbrMore than once I was stuck behind a truck that was literally moving at a walking pace (as in, I could have passed it easily by getting out of the car and walking past the truck) by the time it reached the top of a particularly dicey hillbrbrIt takes eight to nine hours to drive this section of highway under normal driving conditions Terry was well past the midpoint when he was forced to stopbrbrThis young man ran a marathon a day, every day, with a prosthetic leg that was not fit for purpose, along that highway … with tumours in his lungsbrbrHe’s my hero for a reason Comment from : Patricia Ireland |

Two of the greatest Canadians who ever lived are Terry Fox and Tommy Douglas, who we have to thank for universal healthcare Google “The Greatest Canadian” Tommy came in first but I think it should have been Terry He could have stayed home and rested and probably would have had more time on earth but instead he ran that gruelling painful marathon every day He gave up his life for us Thank You Tyler, I wasn’t expecting to cry all the way through this (I usually laugh through your videos) but it brought back all the memories of how amazing he was ❤️ Comment from : M Duncan |
|
I was 26 when Terry was running his Marathon of Hope Not only did Terry create a groundswell for cancer research but he really did change the discourse about cancer Before Terry, people would whisper about someone having cancer, almost like it was shameful He made it acceptable to talk about cancer openlybrbrAll Canadians cried when Terry died I still get choked up every time at the point in this video when they say he died Comment from : Helen Lee Yogini |

Tyler, I was a young man when Terry Fox began his run I became a father for the first time one month after he started it I can assure you, the entire nation was rivetted to his quest because it was impossible yet he was doing it right in front of the world's eyes The only sad aspect is that the world wasn't watching only Canadians were watching And yes Terry Fox was absolutely a super-human Absolutely a super-human We may never see another like him The best evidence for that theory is that we have never seen any other super-human since Terry Fox went back home to heavenbrbrTerry Fox was a sweet young man, a typically good looking 20 year old Canadian kid Not particularly outstanding in any way, but super outstanding in every other way A very good person, with more courage and grit than any human can be expected to be empowered with Terry Fox was extraordinary on so many levels 💞 Comment from : Albertarocks |

Paused a moment here for a comment, the 50 30 bit you catch it was saying he had a 50 chance of survival, but a few years earlier, it would have only been 30 in other words, he realized that as time passed, with research being done, life expectancy was rising, and that research was the answer, so he wanted to raise money for more research (lets get back to it lol) Comment from : Borialis Nights |
