As I reflect on my youth, I can't help but think of all the challenges that came my way and how I faced them To be honest, I think my generation faced those challenges with the same tenacity and grit, especially because we had some great role models to inspire us, like Rocky Balboa, Mike Tyson Of course, it's easy to be motivated when you're looking up to perfect people But what happens when you're faced with someone who is "imperfect"? Take Terry Fox, for example What would you do if you had your right leg amputated due to cancer? Would you run across Canada to raise money for research? That's exactly what Terry Fox did in 1981 After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, Fox had his right leg amputated above the kneebrFox was determined to help other cancer patients He knew that research was the key to finding a cure, and he wanted to do his part to raise money and awarenessbrOn April 12, 1980, Fox set off from St John's, Newfoundland, on his "Marathon of Hope" His goal was to run across Canada, from coast to coast, covering 42 kilometers (262 miles) a daybrbrFox ran for 143 days and 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles) He raised over $17 million for cancer research, and his story inspired people around the world Unfortunately, Fox's cancer returned, and he was forced to stop running on September 1, 1980 He died just nine months later, at the age of 22 Despite his death, Fox's legacy lives on He is a national hero in Canada, and his Marathon of Hope continues to raise money for cancer researchbrbrFox's story is a reminder that even in the face of great adversity, we can achieve great things He was an inspiration to his generation, and he continues to inspire people today (Stefano Donno editore de I Quaderni del Bardo Edizioni e curatore dei blog DOVE POSSO COMPRARE? Why raise money? Why not ask the already rich doctors to donate a few hours work a day for free for the research and maybe for them to chip in with some cash for whatever equipment they need? Oh, and why not ask the government? Seriously Instead of wasting billions on weapons the government should pay whatever is needed to finance cancer research If government can send people to the moon or do nonsense like drop nukes causing cancer, why not pay for cancer research too? Am sure majority of taxpayers would approve using funds for cancer research instead of nukes

My basketball coach does lots of wheelchairs knew and worked together with Terry since his leg amputations Today I went to a small wheelchair basketball tournament to remember Terry Fox and every break we had, he told us a story about him What I loved was how lots of the story was about teasing Terry and all very funny or inspirational He told me how he and his story went drinking or something like that when Terry told them that he was going to ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research This was the first time Terry told anyone besides his family and this was after he did a 100 day running challenge and such to prepare Terry told him and his buddy how if every Canadian donated a dollar, he could raise 28 million My basketball coach told us how he and his buddy was even going to laugh if he said a million dollars Anyways they both reached into their pockets and gave Terry one dollar each and said only 28,999,998 more dollars to go He told us how Terry actually kept the money Now Terry's effort is close to reaching a billion dollars brbrI thought it was nice to share the story with all of you as well Sorry my English is not the best and also this is just from my memory of a story my basketball coach told us today This is also so cool for me becuase my brother's name is Terry which is named after Terry Fox of coursebrbrAlso he showed us a video of Terry running a marathon and because of how slow he was and he felt really bad and there was someone running beside him in the video and he pointed to it and was like guess who this is and said this is all of you guy's favourite coach or something like that and it was really funny becuase it was him that was running beside Terry in that video
