Hi Andy Just interested in your thoughts on this — Fiscal drag is pulling more and more people into the higher income tax bracket, meaning they can only earn £500 on interest payments in regular bank accounts It seems crazy that the PSA isn't being increased at a time when the Bank of England and the UK government desperately want to reduce inflation They want to reduce consumer spending and incentivise saving But at a time when the inflation figure dwarfs savings rates and interest earnings could quite easily become a tax liability, surely they're negating the incentive to save? Even a top fixed interest rate earns less than inflation Purchasing power is quickly eroded, so deferring any purchases is likely to cost people more of their money, the longer they wait (unless we go into deflationary period) Yet another reason for Brits to keep spending and fuelling inflation brbrUK employees are taxed when they earntaxed when they spend and increasingly likely to be taxed when they save If the objective is to reduce consumer spending, surely it makes sense to incentivise saving more by raising the PSA significantly Comment from : @paulstearn8629 |

Regular savers only pay HALF of the advertised rate due to the way interest is calculated Do not fall for them You do not get 7 with first direct, it works out at 35 as I found by following misleading financial advice from Andy Comment from : @OH2023-cj9if |
