So, after watching hundreds of videos of "how much it costs no live in NY" I finally got it: I can live in NY easy, I don't drink coffee Comment from : Nuno Sendas |
My question to New Yorkers: Why are all the grocery stores FREEZING? Like positively ARCTIC Comment from : ATOM 505 |

In Melbourne the PTV is cumulative but capped brbrso its 440 per trip but it caps out at 1450 or something havent taken PTV for a whilebrbrNever heard if equinox…I wonder whether you use it as a networking/client outlet too as im sure people paying $275 are in a different bracket…along with the better services they offer…brbrIm going to do a study abroad here fingers crossed but i feel i might live a bit further out of nyc and commute for a bit of balance plus i would like to travel a bit whilst im there so it makes sense live upstate or across the pond in NJ brbrThank you for the video ☺️ Comment from : Imogen Dunstan |
New York City isn't only Manhattan There are many other boroughs optional if people want to save money Comment from : sunset park kk |
Definitely e-bike was my best investment! I lived in another major world city for almost a decade before NY and the subway was way cheaper, nicer and more frequent, so $290 seems crazy to me if you're not commuting too far You can pay off the bike/scooter in less than 2-years if you commute regularly and feel way better everyday Just ride careful! Comment from : Jon Martin |
To spend $5, 76444 per monthbrIn NY city for your budget, you probably brneed to make at least 70K per month becausebrof increasing inflation Comment from : szvqorwnpst ahskypfwmp |
My Nespresso machine was only $250 and totally worth it Comment from : Elizabeth |
I lived in shared apartments for lots of years But now I want my peace, my privacy, my own space When I get home from the office, especially in winter all I want is sit on my sofa for half an hour just wearing my underpants and relaxthis is a banal example, but there’s quite a few things you can’t do when you have a roommate around So it’s kinda sad that lots of people are like forced into getting roommates cos they can’t afford a decent studio in midtown 😢 Comment from : MrDoggylander92 |
A fool and his money Comment from : herb white |
I kinda feel sorry for those who live in NYC I pay 300 € for 2 two bedroom house, 4k for one bedroom house is simply insane I live in Portugal so If I were to move to a new place I'd say currently I would have to pay atleast 600€ for the same type of house (I live close to the capital) but still, it's nowhere close to that price tag Comment from : Markks |
All these white collar folks killing themselves just to live inside manhattan are suckers You can find 1 bedroom apartments in an outer borrough like Queens for 1500-2000 per month CLOSE walking distance to the E/F trains Im talking Nice neighborhoods where u need like a 720+ credit score Yall are giving greedy NYC landlords what they want Comment from : MrSundayNightt |
Everyone needs an extra cash flow apart from a daily job, anything that can help get a little extra dough each month is important to beat the tide For a comfort vacation in mind, you should mainly be focused in channeling funds into investments that yield returns without constant intervention Comment from : Scott Riley |
Yo can take the subway and walk - just wear comfortable sneakers - I have lived here for 63 years with a roommate I spend $2300 per month including all expenses Comment from : Bachconcertos Whitney |
I make my NYC coffee at home - if I am out I buy from a coffee cart only $200 coffee Pack a lunch & eat in the park Comment from : Bachconcertos Whitney |
Comparing prices in whole foods vs my country, the one thing that surprised me was Ben & Jerry ice cream being only 7$ while here it's 8Eur Otherwise like milk or eggs are double or tripple the price there Comment from : Miha S |
I switched off mentally at nearly $300 for the gym and now watching for fun Comment from : Isa Mutlib |
So by that standard, you would spend about 70k a year, and on an NYC finance wage, that isn't actually that bad I was expecting that to be so much worse😅 Comment from : Aaron Ostrowski |
$75 for a cup of coffee is a joke No matter where Comment from : An Dimitris |

The good thing and NYC is crime is free Comment from : GYM RAT |
I'm sure Manhattan is great, but most of America is not able to live in Manhattan It always amazes me how different parts of the country have totally different economies and yet, somehow, the federal government is supposed to devise economic policies that work for everyone And it doesn't help that so much of the mainstream media is based in New York and seems completely oblivious to the rest of the country's existence (or knows about it but won't report about it) brbrThank God I can brew my coffee the old-fashioned way and get my food at Walmart, which now seems to be pretty unaffordable as well Comment from : Tim Ward |

Thanks for the breakdown, I always wondered how much it costs to live in NYC So almost 6k for the basic necessities like shelter, transportation, food & drinks I'd be curious to know how much that goes up when you include stuff like clothes, gadgets, haircuts, services, and other occasional purchases Maybe 10k a month? Comment from : Radu Antoniu |

It looks like youre not heeding that Warren Buffett quote you put up at the beginning of the video If you are a YouTuber and work remotely, to heck with those crazy prices Live in a small town, spend half of what you spend now and save the rest You still get to travel all over for work, so you're not missing much in my book Comment from : Angelika |
Theoretically, if you wanted to afford his rent and spend no more than 30 of your income (suggested) you would need to make 130k annually before taxes 😮 Comment from : ideklex |
Your apartment is gorgeous 😊 Comment from : Francesca Betti Fulan MusicTV |
New Yorker here born n raised in North Jersey but live in midtown This is very realistic One of the things I tell everyone is that even making 100k (6 figures) isn't enough to comfortably live in New York Brett just popped out a modest 5700 per month and 100k after taxes in New York City comes out to about 5500/month I know people who easily spend 8-15k per month in New York Comment from : Gil Disc |

Don't forget what a wise person once said of food, "You can pay the farmer today or pay the doctor tomorrow" Paying more money for healthier food will serve you better in the long run Medical bills will cost you far more than a grocery bill ever will You can cure and even treat/prevent almost any chronic illness with a healthy diet You make super awesome videos keep it up Brett!! Comment from : Michael Bowers |

So you are spending about $70,000 per year so you will have to making $140,000 per year to make 70 grand I say that as they take out 50 from my paycheck for federal/state taxes, Medicare/Social Security Health Insurance , Dental and Vision and saving some money for the 401k retriement plan Comment from : Jimmy Walters |

$4100 for a studio is ridiculous, I only pay a quarter of that for a new 3bdr house on 1/2 an acre 750 for a coffee? Try 50 for a Keurig mug of Joe Over $5600 a month to live in a crime ridden city, not good Watch out for yourself on the subway it could be your last ride but at least it's the cheapest thing on your list Be safe and hopefully you don't become a statistic Comment from : Bradley |
