So Mistake #1 is left hand thumb? hmmmm Hendrix used his thumb as an additional finger to do bass notes so having a thumb over the neck is a mistake? Not everybody plays 80s metal type scales and modes, some play blues and other's play country picking

Great advice, but you still have long fingers Those with actual short fingers play flat-fingered without trying as it's the only way to reach the frets And forget the thumb coming around

Well full arm motion doesnt necessarily have to be a mistake I mean im playing a show, having a great time, and playing some sick ass heavy ass d-beat riff of course im doing the full arm motion XD

the hardest and saddest thing for me is that if i'm using my thumb i have after a min or 2 extreme burning pain in my hand, like a tendon is dying, i have small hands and this makes me always sad, and the only thing that really helped as a teen was using weed and alcohol but as a adult this is not an option haha its not perse with solos tho Great video tho i'm going to practice more hahahah

So, I play and record standing up using CLASSICAL style, WAY easier and you can play 10x faster or 10x slower Also that thumb technique is AMAZING too when playing classical style

the main issue I run into is I have fat and stubby fingers so angling my hand awkwardly is sometimes the only way I can make chords, and after about 15 minutes of practice my fret hand is sore as hell, and that's just warming up practicing the spider walk and some open chord stuff

My biggest mistake so far (yes I'm aware of it) is being stuck in box scales I just can't remember scales horizontally So I just play up and down a specific box scale one at a time

My worst problem that was never told to me is that I'm not supposed to hold the weight of the guitar neck with my left hand I can't remove that feeling that if I don't do that, the guitar will fall Idk how to keep it in balance and move my hand through the whole neck

As a person who first started playing classical guitar and only after 9 years started to play with electric and western guitars , the basic techniques that was tought whilst learning classical music felt natural for me to adapt and improve my playstyle when i learned to play some of the more technical songs of rock and metal music Everything here what i saw are atypical mistakes that are supposed to be made when learning to play any musical instrument Thats the reason why we learn them to enjoy the music we make and play from other authors

My teacher told me to practice without pressing the thumb to the back of the neck at all This to learn and realize how little you actually have to press to get a clean note My left hand thumb tendon has begun to make problems in my later days (getting 70 this year) and it hurts like hell not only when I play guitar so you probably should give your thumb a break to avoid the same problems I got I don not even come close to your guitar skills so it is not cause I have over done anything but this can happen to anyone

Be careful with that left hand thumb I'm dealing with repetitive-use arthritis in my LH thumb after 40+ years of playing Half of which I used poor left-hand technique when it came to my thumb Changing top proper technique was tough but it made my playing much easier & sound better Even after years of being a performing guitarist for many years

Hey Bernth! Love the channel! I have a question for you about achieving facility with sweep picking, specifically about the length of time it should take to get a handle on it I have been playing for almost 40 years I generally don't spend much time working on new technique these days, but now that i am semi-retired i am tackling the techniques that i struggled with in the past I have been running through several of your instructional videos and they have been a huge help I was experiencing some progress for the first 30 days, but for the last month i feel that i have actually regressed with this technique I am what i would consider an intermediate player I can play note for note EVH, Rhoades, Lynch etc I grew up in Shred Heaven in the 80s and have always wanted to learn the sweep technique Please let me know what thoughts you may have on a sweep picking timetable Thank you !!!!
